Brexit won’t negatively affect the English Legal System.

A report this week from the Law Society of England & Wales, declares optimistically, that any actual Brexit (should it ever take place!), will not damage the reputation of the legal status of England and Wales. As a firm opinion, Achieve Legal would reiterate, that due to its flexibility and stability, English law has always had the premier reputation worldwide as being the finest legal system for both Personal Law and for Business disputes. In a report titled 'England And Wales: A World Jurisdiction of Choice', The President of the Law Society Mr. Simon Davis said he is “full of optimism that...

Ending Gender Stereotyping

Gender stereotyping and equality has become a prevalent and often debated subject in recent times. It therefore comes as no surprise that this hot topic has caught the attention of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the body that administers UK advertising codes and regulates the industry. In 2017 the ASA and Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP) undertook a review into the practice of portraying gender stereotyping within advertising. It was found that gender stereotypes “can negatively reinforce how people think they should look and behave based purely on their gender… This can lower their self-esteem and limit their aspirations and ability...

Bambi’s Revenge for Mother Death

Court Orders Deer Poacher to Disney Therapy.   In an interesting yet strange twist in a recent legal case, an infamous deer poacher has been given some rather unusual extra punishment. David Berry Junior was sentenced to serve a year in prison for killing hundreds of deer. As part of his sentence, the judge ordered he has to watch Disney’s “Bambi” at least once a month throughout his prison term. His first viewing was on December 23rd. We can’t help wondering if Santa took a dim view of his behaviour and relegated him to the naughty list. And yes, before anyone emails us...

It pays to keep a Lawyer handy.

A Lawyer makes the best friend to have – well in America they definitely do. Most Lawyers in the USA charge their clients around $200 an hour - there are after all, the staff gym memberships, the car perks and law school debts to pay. But the trouble seems to be that there are simply too many lawyers. The USA has more lawyers than all the rest of the world put together - almost 800,000 up from an approximately 260,000 in 1960. Statistically, the USA has 300 lawyers for every 100,000 citizens. By stark contrast, Britain has 82 Lawyers per 100,000...

The GDPR Clock is Ticking!

In further moves to protect people's data and online privacy, the General Data Protection Regulations (or GDPR for short), come into effect on 25th May 2018. This has led to a lot of confusion and panic within the small business community. With massive automatic fines for non-compliance, we are receiving a huge increase in calls from business owners asking for guidance and help. It will be no excuse for a business operator to say they didn't know about it. The old expression "Ignorance, is no excuse in the eyes of the law" comes to mind, and there are massive automatic fines...

What is a trademark and how to register yours correctly

What are trademarks? Trade marks identify your products and services so that customers may find the products and services they like and avoid those they didn’t enjoy. If consumers have had a good experience with a business, or have heard that a particular business provides effective service, they may want to buy from that business. They should be able to reliably do so, without the risk of finding an imposter instead. Trademarks serve this purpose as they are your business’ “badge of origin”. Signs and other identifiers The signs that are typically registered are words (that is, names or slogans), and logos. Packaging and design features of a brand, including graphic symbols, are also sometimes registered. There are other...
